Sergio Corbucci’s 1968 spaghetti Western The Great Silence is now streaming uncut on MUBI using a restored 2K transfer. The release matters because the film, long difficult for American audiences to see in a high-quality version, is regarded as a major work of the genre and a clear influence on Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.

Set amid striking snowy Italian alpine landscapes, the film combines violent action, political themes and an Ennio Morricone score.
