The No Man’s Sky players building utopia at the end of the universe

Eurogamer · 2 hours ago

No Man's Sky's Galactic Hub Project marks its 10th anniversary, a player-run community that emerged from the game's divisive 2016 launch to become a sprawling collaborative endeavour spanning the game's procedurally generated universe. Founded by a Los Angeles-based player known as Conor (username 7101334), the Hub began as an escape from negativity surrounding the game's release, offering a welcoming space for enthusiasts to explore and document Hello Games' vast, largely uncharted virtual cosmos together.

The project started on 30 October 2016, when around 35 members journeyed to the Euclid galaxy's Rentocniijik Expanse to catalogue its star systems, planets and wildlife, inspired by early coordinate-sharing traditions and feats like one player's two-week trek circumnavigating a planet. A decade on, the Hub has grown into an in-game civilisation covering 99 regions across three galaxies, supported by its own subreddit, wiki and Discord community.
