Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is expected to remain a major box-office draw in its second weekend, taking an estimated $84.5 million in North America. The projected 32 per cent fall from its opening is unusually small for a blockbuster, reinforcing Nolan’s commercial appeal and helping Universal dominate a weekend in which rivals avoided releasing new wide titles.

The film opened with $123.5 million domestically and $263.7 million worldwide, and has now reached $322 million globally. Younger viewers have contributed significantly, with people aged 18 to 34 making up half of its opening-weekend audience; IMAX represented 23 per cent of that revenue. The production is the first narrative feature filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, while Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is due to provide stronger competition next weekend.
