Christopher Nolan's epic *The Odyssey* is closing in on $1 billion at the global box office after grossing more than $100 million worldwide in its third weekend, even as it went up against the record-breaking debut of *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. The milestone matters because it would make the R-rated adaptation only the third Nolan film to cross $1 billion, cementing it as one of the biggest R-rated films in box office history and pushing his highest-grossing title.

The Odyssey is on track to become Nolan's third film to hit $1 billion, following *The Dark Knight* and *The Dark Knight Rises*; his 2023 film *Oppenheimer* narrowly missed the mark, finishing on $975 million. The film has already overtaken the lifetime hauls of *Interstellar* ($770 million) and *Inception* ($840 million), putting it on course to become Nolan's highest-grossing release overall. Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, it opened on 17 July to strong acclaim, holding a 94% critics' score and 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
