Christopher Nolan's epic film The Odyssey has continued its strong performance at the box office, overtaking the historical epics of director Ridley Scott after just ten days on release. In its second weekend the film fell by only 29%, giving Nolan the biggest second-weekend haul of his career and beating the holds achieved by both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Such a small drop is unusual for a major blockbuster, underlining the film's strong word of mouth and suggesting it will go on to be an enduring commercial success.

The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson, is now expected to surpass Oppenheimer's $975 million lifetime global total and the takings of Nolan's second and third Batman films, putting it on course to pass $1 billion worldwide and become the biggest hit of his career. It has also earned some of the strongest reviews of Nolan's career, holding a "Certified Fresh" 94% critics' score and a "Verified Hot" 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
