Variety · 2 hours ago

Insight Editions, Universal Pictures and Syncopy have released two new photo books documenting the making of Christopher Nolan's forthcoming epic "The Odyssey," offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at how the ambitious adaptation of Homer's poem was brought to the screen. The books feature interviews with Nolan and members of the cast and crew, shedding light on the technical and creative challenges of shooting the large-scale production, including scenes such as the Trojan Horse and various battle sequences.

James Mottram's 280-page book, "Filming the Odyssey: Inside the Making of Christopher Nolan's Modern Epic," is available now and traces the film's journey from script to screen. It includes anecdotes such as Tom Holland's account of adjusting to the noise of the Imax camera during his first scene, and details on the casting of Zendaya as the goddess Athena, a role she learned about through her partner and co-star Holland. The starry cast also includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o and Tom Holland, among others, reflecting Nolan's stated ambition to bring one of literature's great myths to the big screen at scale for the first time.
