Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" has crossed $1 billion at the international box office, becoming the 17th film to hit that mark abroad and, notably, the first Hollywood release that isn't a sequel or remake to do so since Avatar in 2009. The milestone underscores the film's exceptional box office performance for Universal, cementing it as Nolan's highest-grossing movie ever and helping drive the studio's dominant year at the global box office.

The epic, starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and others, has taken $1.014 billion internationally and $1.59 billion worldwide overall. Its top overseas markets include the UK and Ireland ($109.2m), China ($92.7m) and France ($84.6m), while it also holds the record as the highest-grossing film ever in Imax, with over $457m worldwide. Universal has now become the first studio to pass $4 billion globally and $3 billion overseas this year, with year-to-date takings exceeding $4.7 billion.
