The Olivia Tremor Control Announce First New Album In 27 Years The Same Place

Stereogum · 2 hours ago

The Olivia Tremor Control, a key act in Athens, Georgia's Elephant 6 collective, have announced their first new album in 27 years, The Same Place. The lo-fi psychedelic pop band split after releasing just two cult-favourite records in the 1990s, and both co-leaders, Bill Doss and Will Cullen Hart, have since died, in 2012 and 2024 respectively. The surviving members completed the double album using notes Hart left behind, working alongside fellow Elephant 6 collaborators, making it the band's third and final release.

The Same Place is a 27-track double album due for release on 23 October via the Elephant 6 Recording Company, and includes "The Same Place" and "Garden Of Light," two songs Hart shared on the day his death was announced. Doss and Hart had originally begun work on the record around 20 years ago, and it was finished by bandmates working with producers Derek Almstead, Jason NeSmith and Ron Kwasma. The band previously released Dusk At Cubist Castle (1996) and Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One (1999) before breaking up, later reuniting only for live shows.
