Anne Hathaway was originally attached to play the female lead in Silver Linings Playbook, but reportedly left after creative differences with director David O. Russell. The role instead went to Jennifer Lawrence, whose performance won the Best Actress Oscar, making the casting change significant in both actresses’ careers.
Harvey Weinstein said in 2014 that Hathaway and Mark Wahlberg had initially been planned for the film, before disagreements altered the project. Lawrence ultimately starred opposite Bradley Cooper in the eight-Oscar-nominated film, while Hathaway had her own major success in 2012 as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises and as Fantine in Les Misérables, winning Best Supporting Actress for the latter.
