The Other Bennet Sister wraps filming Christmas special
Filming has wrapped on a three-part Christmas special of the BBC's The Other Bennet Sister, a drama inspired by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice that focuses on the previously overlooked middle daughter, Mary Bennet. The series proved a major success, drawing 7.3 million UK viewers in its first four weeks alongside strong audiences in the US and Canada, and its return has generated significant excitement among fans and high-profile figures such as writer Russell T. Davies.
The show, based on Janice Hadlow's novel, stars Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet, with Ruth Jones and Richard E. Grant as her parents, Mrs and Mr Bennet. The Christmas specials, produced by Cardiff-based Bad Wolf and filmed largely in Wales over the summer, will pick up after Mary's wedding to Tom Hayward, exploring life after the ceremony. Executive producer Jane Tranter said audience response had exceeded expectations, noting the first series also achieved 250 million media views across BBC social accounts. The specials are due to air over the festive period on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and via BritBox in North America.
