Scottish duo The Proclaimers have criticised trans-rights activists as "truth-phobic" and defended Father Ted creator Graham Linehan's anti-transgender comments, in an interview with The Times promoting their new album "You May Offend". Twins Craig and Charlie Reid used the interview to voice opposition to Scotland's 2022 Gender Recognition Reform bill, arguing it has caused "real damage", and to frame their new record as a response to a climate in which "people are getting scared to say what they think" for fear of being cancelled.

Craig Reid claimed the reform has led to "violent men, including convicted rapists" being placed in women's prisons, and said people have lost careers simply for stating "a woman is an adult human female". He insisted he is "not transphobic" but accused a vocal minority of denying "biological reality" while claiming hurt feelings when challenged. Charlie Reid separately defended Linehan, who has faced a Twitter ban, a police harassment warning, the axing of a Father Ted musical, and public clashes with band Lambrini Girls and actor Chris O'Dowd over his views on gender self-identification, saying "he lost his career for telling the truth."
