- It says merit has been replaced by ideological priorities.
- The supplied extract offers few specific supporting details.

## Summary

The article argues that the US education establishment is in crisis because progressive policies have, in the author’s view, prioritised ideological conformity and equity over merit and academic standards. It portrays the resulting backlash and institutional difficulties as evidence that this model is failing, and contends that it should be allowed to collapse rather than rescued.

The supplied text provides little supporting evidence beyond the author’s assertions, and the article is presented as opinion rather than reported analysis. Its central claim is that progressive influence in education has displaced a focus on individual achievement, contributing to wider failures within the system.
