Ronnie Wood recorded an emotionally charged guitar solo for The Rolling Stones' track "Back In Your Life" whilst learning that Brian Wilson and Sly Stone had died, transforming the studio session into a deeply affecting experience. Wood describes how the spirit of Brian Wilson, whose Pet Sounds album profoundly influenced both him and the band, seemed to guide the raw, unplanned performance, creating something that "simply came out" of him without deliberate intention.

Mick Jagger penned the track as a meditation on being ghosted after a brief romance, drawing from personal experience. Wood performed the solo in a single take as an emotional outpouring of approximately nine minutes, later edited to around four or five minutes for the final recording. The guitarist, who deeply admired Wilson's melodic genius despite never meeting him personally, reflected on their mutual artistic appreciation—Wilson had previously praised The Rolling Stones' work, including their 1976 ballad "Fool to Cry," crediting it with helping him through difficult times.
