## Summary

Dulé Hill has joined *The Rookie* as Lt. Hughes, a veteran officer taking over as Watch Commander amid turmoil at work and in his personal life. With the show’s ninth season due to premiere on 6 January 2027, the article recommends *Psych* as a light-hearted procedural for fans waiting for its return.

Hill is best known to many viewers for playing Gus Guster in *Psych*, which follows Shawn Spencer, a man who pretends to be psychic while helping police solve cases, and his lifelong friend Gus. The USA Network series ran for eight seasons from 2006 and inspired three films; its police investigations, comedy and character dynamics offer a different but familiar take on the procedural genre.
