## Key points

- Mother allegedly killed after discovering partner’s secret family
- Taxi driver charged with domestic violence murder
- Baby son was found with the accused

## Summary

A young mother from Toowoomba, Jana Armstrong, was allegedly killed by the father of her four-month-old son after recently discovering he had kept a major part of his life hidden from her. Police have charged 48-year-old taxi driver Dharminder Singh, her former partner, with domestic violence murder after her body was found in bushland. The case matters because it centres on an alleged fatal act of intimate partner violence and the disappearance of a mother whose baby was later found with the accused.

According to a family friend, Armstrong had only recently learned Singh was married and had two other children. She was reported missing on 8 July after her Hyundai Kona was found abandoned near her unit in Newtown, and her remains were discovered on Saturday evening by pig hunters in dense bushland off Esk Hampton Road. Police later found Singh holding the couple’s infant son, Deshal, and he has since been accused over Armstrong’s death. Armstrong was 30 years old, while Singh is 48.
