‘The Shards’ Trailer: Igby Rigney, Kaia Gerber Navigate Senior Year and a Serial Killer in FX’s Bret Easton Ellis Adaptation
FX is launching 'The Shards', a drama series from executive producer Ryan Murphy centred on a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite preparatory school in 1980s Los Angeles. The story follows Bret, an aspiring writer portrayed by Igby Rigney, as he and his circle—including Susan (Kaia Gerber), Debbie, and Thom—navigate the typical pressures of their final year alongside darker undercurrents of identity, jealousy and hidden dangers.
The narrative intensifies when a mysterious and charismatic transfer student named Robert Mallory arrives, coinciding with the emergence of a serial killer known as The Trawler who is targeting teenagers across the city. Bret becomes increasingly suspicious of Robert, though his friends dismiss his concerns as embellishment. The series explores the blurred line between fact and fiction as Bret's fixation on both Robert and The Trawler's crimes deepens, leaving him questioning whether he can trust his circle or his own perception of the unfolding threat.
