‘The Simpsons’ Officially Reaches the End of an Era
‘The Simpsons’ is entering a new phase after Disney+ began releasing full-length episodes exclusively on the streaming service, ending the programme’s long-standing reliance on traditional television broadcasts alone. The change matters because it gives Disney+ a more prominent role in the future of the longest-running primetime animated sitcom, which is already guaranteed to continue through its 40th season.
The series is currently in season 37 and recently reached its 800th episode; Fox renewed it for four further seasons during season 36. Disney+ released the double episode “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition” last month and “Simpsley” earlier in July, with “Yellow Mirror” due on 26 August. The platform had previously hosted exclusive Simpsons shorts from 2020 and began adding full-length exclusive episodes in 2024.
