The Sphere in Las Vegas is upgrading the 4D effects in its immersive adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz", building on a production that has already grossed more than $450 million since launching a year ago. The move underlines how the venue continues to invest in its film adaptations to sustain audience interest and ticket sales, with the show now booked into early 2027.

The enhancements include new animatronic winged monkeys flying over the audience, additional pyrotechnic fireworks, "Glinda Glitter", scented apples falling from above, and new scents released during key scenes, adding to existing effects such as fire and an in-room tornado. Sphere president and COO Jennifer Koester said the changes aim to deepen audience immersion in the story. The Sphere, backed by Madison Square Garden's Jim Dolan, will next adapt "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" in 2027, and the company is developing further Sphere venues in the Washington DC area and Abu Dhabi.
