‘The View’ host digs in with warning against socialist candidates amid reported Mamdani feud

Fox News · 3 hours ago

On "The View", co-host Sara Haines warned viewers to scrutinise socialist candidates who campaign on affordability, pushing back after fellow host Joy Behar dismissed "socialism" as merely a buzzword for democracy and lower living costs. The exchange, aired on ABC, comes amid a reported dispute between the programme and the office of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani over earlier remarks Haines made about a New York socialist congressional candidate, and reflects wider Democratic tensions over how to respond to the rising appeal of left-wing politics among younger voters.

Behar argued that Republicans were branding Democrats as communists out of desperation, calling it "the sign of a sinking ship". Haines acknowledged why socialism appeals to young people, citing millennials' worsening financial prospects, a 115% rise in home prices between 2005 and 2025, and the threat of AI to jobs. However, she urged voters to research candidates, warning that some Democratic Socialists of America platforms back reducing or eliminating law enforcement, borders and prisons — outcomes she suggested could lead to "anarchy". The debate followed comments by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt about Gen Z's views on socialism.
