DjRUM, the London producer and DJ known offstage as Felix Manuel, has spoken to Clash about his career and his forthcoming EP, "I Wander", ahead of his debut appearance at Houghton Festival. The interview traces his evolution from an early love of piano and formative years playing youth clubs and squat raves under the name DJ Rum, through to a body of work that moves fluidly between club-focused productions and more introspective, home-listening material.

"I Wander" is released on 14 August and follows last year's second album, "Under Tangled Silence", a record shaped by hardware problems, label disputes and personal setbacks that DjRUM says gave it a lived-in character. The new EP is a shorter, more concentrated set that continues to explore ideas of time and physical formats. DjRUM is set to close the Earthling Stage at Houghton Festival, the Norfolk weekender curated by Craig Richards, with a set running into Monday morning; in the interview he also discusses his difficult relationship with formal musical education and his growing confidence as a pianist.
