Hollywood unions are divided over the proposed $111 billion Paramount Skydance–Warner Bros. Discovery merger and the antitrust case delaying it until March 2027. IATSE and the Directors Guild of America want a settlement or faster trial, arguing that prolonged uncertainty is worsening an already weak production market and harming members’ employment prospects.

The Writers Guild of America supports regulators’ attempt to block the merger and has filed its own lawsuit, while SAG-AFTRA opposes the deal unless enforceable protections are secured; the Teamsters have also demanded workforce commitments. Production work has been hit by the pandemic, 2023 strikes, reduced content spending and outsourcing, with IATSE reporting 2025 hours nearly 36% below 2022 levels and the DGA reportedly seeing employment fall 40%.
