Sergio Leone’s 1966 spaghetti Western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is now available to stream free on Pluto TV, alongside several other Westerns. The release is notable because the film is approaching its 60th anniversary and has received unusually emphatic praise from Quentin Tarantino, who has called it cinema’s greatest achievement.

Tarantino described Leone’s film as the best-directed of all time, while also praising Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven and later reassessing Robert Altman’s McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Pluto TV is offering all three films free this month, presenting viewers with Westerns ranging from Leone’s stylised Italian production to Malick’s more meditative and Altman’s revisionist approach.
