Prime Video's 2019 fantasy series Carnival Row combines an epic magical world in the style of The Wheel of Time with the murder-mystery structure of Sherlock, according to a Collider article championing the underrated Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne vehicle. Despite starring two well-known leads and offering a distinctive blend of genres, the steampunk-fantasy show was cancelled after two seasons, having already been cut short by COVID-19 production delays, and remains overlooked by wider audiences.

The series is set in the Burgue, a human city where displaced fae refugees such as pixies and fauns live in the segregated district of Carnival Row after their homeland is destroyed by war. Inspector Rycroft "Philo" Philostrate (Bloom) investigates a spate of murders targeting both humans and fae, a case complicated by the arrival of his former lover, the faerie Vignette Stonemoss (Delevingne), who joins a rebel faction opposing him. Parallel storylines follow a wealthy faun facing prejudice from his human neighbours and political turmoil after the Chancellor's son is abducted, allowing the show to explore immigration, prejudice and corruption through a grounded, multi-perspective lens despite its fantastical setting.
