Thick as Thieves studio does what triple-A won’t: keep its game playable
OtherSide Entertainment, the developer of the co-operative immersive sim Thick as Thieves, has laid off most of its staff after the game’s launch and will stop producing new content. However, it is working with publisher Megabit to ensure the game remains playable, a notable move when many online games become inaccessible after official servers close.
A small remaining team is developing an update to replace cloud-hosted dedicated servers with peer-to-peer networking for co-op play; solo play will not be affected. Once that work is complete, Megabit will handle any remaining bugs and technical issues, while planned extra content, modes and systems have been ruled out as financially unviable.
- Thick as Thieves will receive no further content updates.
- Co-op is being moved from cloud servers to peer-to-peer networking.
- The change should keep the game playable long term.
