## Key points

- Hawaii ranked as America's most expensive state to live in.
- New index compares cost-of-living across all US states.
- Housing and grocery prices remain elevated for many Americans.

## Summary

A new cost-of-living index highlights how dramatically expenses vary across US states, with Hawaii ranked as the most expensive place to live overall. The analysis comes as Americans continue to grapple with elevated prices for housing, groceries and everyday goods, underscoring how much a household's location can affect its financial wellbeing.

The available report focuses on comparative state rankings rather than a single national trend, illustrating that where Americans choose to live can significantly change how far their income stretches. Beyond the headline finding on Hawaii, the article references broader economic pressures, including rising housing and grocery costs nationwide, though further state-by-state figures were not detailed in the available text.
