BritBox has announced Tommy & Tuppence, a six-episode series that reimagines Agatha Christie's amateur detective duo in a modern setting, marking the first time the story has been given a contemporary English-language adaptation. Starring Josh Dylan and Antonia Thomas as the married sleuthing pair, the show updates characters who traditionally aged across Christie's original works, instead placing them at the start of their crime-solving careers while retaining the romantic chemistry and wit that defined the pairing.

The series, written by Phoebe Eclair-Powell and produced by Lookout Point, premieres on BritBox on 15 September 2026. The cast also includes Imelda Staunton as Aunt Ada, a retired private investigator who mentors the duo, alongside Nicholas Richardson, Charlie Condou, Callie Cooke and Chizzy Akudolu. Previous adaptations, including 1983's Partners in Crime and its 2015 revival with David Walliams and Jessica Raine, kept the original period setting, whereas this version blends screwball comedy, romance and murder mystery in a present-day backdrop, according to executive producer Katie Draper and BritBox's Robert Schildhouse.

  • BritBox's Tommy & Tuppence reboots Christie's detectives with a modern setting.
  • Josh Dylan and Antonia Thomas star; premieres 15 September 2026.
  • First-ever contemporary take, unlike earlier period-set adaptations.
