This app makes the Pixel 11’s HiLight feature actually useful

The Verge · 2 hours ago

Google's new HiLight LED array on the Pixel 11 Pro launched with very limited functionality, so a third-party developer has built an app to unlock its full potential. The official feature only lights up in two situations – when the phone is face-down while interacting with Gemini, or when a favourite contact calls – and even then offers just five colour options. This has left many users disappointed by a feature that was once a popular part of older Android phones.

The new app, called HiLight Studio, was created by developer Dhananjay_Tech and lets users customise the LED for practically any notification, such as pulsing rainbow colours for specific Slack messages or a green wave for texts. It offers far greater control than Google's version, including adjustable timing, brightness, intensity and saturation, an unlimited colour slider instead of just five presets, and the ability to import and export shareable presets. The app is not yet available on the Play Store, so installing it currently requires sideloading via GitHub and enabling developer settings on the phone.
