## Key points

- Lydia runs from a picture-perfect Christmas proposal.
- Her parents try to help her work out what she wants.
- Elizabeth Guest’s feature film expands her web series.

## Summary

A Very Merry Breakup turns the familiar Christmas rom-com setup around: instead of a city woman finding love in a small town, Lydia flees a seemingly perfect proposal and seeks advice from her parents. The film explores whether a dependable, thoughtful relationship is what she wants, and why perfection may leave her uncertain.

Written and directed by Elizabeth Guest, who also stars as Lydia, the feature expands on her web series Guest Appearances. Andrew Leeds plays Tim, whose Christmas-time proposal prompts Lydia to fly across the country to her parents in Los Angeles. The cast includes Guest’s parents, Nicholas and Pamela Guest, as well as Ed Begley Jr., Rachelle Carson-Begley and Robert Carradine; the film is dedicated to Carradine’s memory. It is available digitally on Apple TV, Fandango at Home and Prime Video.
