Thousands of people arriving at Reading Festival set up camp in rain ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend, despite a forecast of persistent wet weather. Around 100,000 attendees are expected at the event, where Charli XCX, Florence + The Machine and Chase & Status are among the headline acts.

Festival-goers wore waterproofs and wellington boots, protected belongings with bin liners and hauled luggage through muddy paths. Rain is forecast across much of the festival, with heavier showers expected on Saturday, while Leeds Festival is also set for unsettled conditions; the Met Office has issued yellow warnings for rain and thunderstorms in parts of Wales and southern England.
