## Key points

- Three executions are scheduled in three states on one day.
- Florida’s planned execution would bring its 2026 total to 19.
- Clemency, health concerns and execution methods remain contested.

## Summary

Florida, Alabama and Indiana are scheduled to execute one prisoner each on the same day, which would be the second time in 2026 that three US executions have taken place within hours. The cases have renewed debate over capital punishment, clemency and execution methods, while Florida’s pace of executions stands out nationally.

Jesse Guardado, 64, is scheduled to die in Florida for the 2004 killing of Jackie Malone; the execution would bring the state’s 2026 total to 19, matching its record for a year. Michael Taylor, 54, is due to be executed in Alabama for the 1991 murders of a couple, after the governor rejected clemency and a judge upheld lethal injection. Indiana’s planned execution of Jeffrey Weisheit, 50, for a fire that killed two children would be the state’s first of the year; his lawyers have raised concerns about his health and the drugs planned for use.
