Three-time major champion Anna Nordqvist will retire from professional golf after this week’s FM Championship near Boston, ending an 18-year professional career. The 39-year-old Swede will remain closely involved in the game as Europe’s captain for the Solheim Cup against the United States in the Netherlands on 11-13 September, having played in each of the previous nine editions.

Nordqvist won majors at the 2009 LPGA Championship, the 2017 Evian Championship and the 2021 Women’s Open, and helped Europe win five Solheim Cups. She earned $14.1m (£10.36m), won nine LPGA Tour titles and five Ladies European Tour events, but said she is retiring to focus on her health and family after a difficult recent period.
