Tigers head coach Carr leaves for ‘personal reasons’

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Castleford Tigers head coach Ryan Carr has left the Super League club by mutual agreement, citing "personal reasons," having been stood down from his duties two weeks earlier while the club said it was "following a process." The Australian's departure ends a troubled short tenure and leaves Castleford, currently ninth in the 14-team table, needing to find a new head coach immediately, with director of rugby Chris Chester continuing to lead the side in the interim.

Carr, 38, joined on a three-year deal last August after working as an assistant coach at NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons, and won just seven of his 21 Super League matches in charge. Owner Martin Jepson said he was "sorry" to see Carr go and that the search for a replacement would begin at once, with Chester set to be assisted by Jason Netherton and Luke Robinson for the remaining four games of the season, starting with Saturday's trip to St Helens. The move also raises questions over the future of 2027 signings such as Damien Cook and Tyrell Sloan, who had been attracted to the club partly by Carr, with former St Helens coach Paul Rowley mentioned as a possible successor.
