## Key points

- Scott twice avoided saying whether he would accept a certified Peltola win.
- He predicted Sullivan would win and raised concerns about a namesake candidate.
- A judge dismissed a bid to block certification of a Peltola victory.

## Summary

Republican senator Tim Scott declined twice to say whether he would accept the result of Alaska’s Senate election if Democrat Mary Peltola won and her victory was certified. Asked on NBC’s Meet the Press on 1 November, Scott predicted that the Republican incumbent, Dan S. Sullivan, would win. When presenter Kristen Welker repeated the question, Scott again avoided a direct answer and raised concerns about another candidate on the ballot who is also named Dan Sullivan. Scott chairs the committee responsible for electing Republicans to the Senate.

The exchange came amid allegations that Democratic operatives had helped recruit the second Sullivan to draw votes from the incumbent. Peltola has denied involvement. The US Justice Department sought to prevent certification of a Peltola victory while it investigated possible voter confusion, but a federal judge dismissed that lawsuit on 1 November. The incumbent Sullivan said separately that he would accept the election results whether he won or lost. Scott’s remarks left his own position on a certified Peltola victory unanswered.
