One of the child's parents has been arrested, though authorities are still investigating how the firearm came to be accessible to the child. Canton Police Chief Joseph Bialy commended the daycare's response, stating that their preparedness and safety protocols prevented a potential tragedy.

The incident occurred at Children's World Early Learning Center, where a teacher immediately intervened upon seeing the toddler remove the holstered weapon. Police are working with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to determine appropriate charges. Officials from the daycare emphasised that no children were harmed and that their strict safety protocols were instrumental in avoiding a more serious outcome.
