Actor Tom Hiddleston has made a three-part National Geographic docu-drama series about Pompeii, returning to a location he previously championed for an episode of Marvel's Loki. Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston follows several potential survivors of the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius, blending historical research with speculative recreation to explore how their fates might have unfolded differently, echoing the time-bending premise of Loki itself.

Hiddleston has said his interest in Pompeii dates back to a teenage visit, which later led him to pitch the city's inclusion in Loki. The new series was prompted by the success of similar factual programmes made by his on-screen Marvel brother Chris Hemsworth, including Limitless and A Road Trip to Remember. The first episode questions the assumption that Pompeii's residents had no warning of the disaster, while later episodes examine a possible naval rescue and the aftermath for survivors; the series is available now on Disney+ and Hulu, ahead of Hiddleston's Loki returning in Avengers: Doomsday this December.
