## Summary

Apple TV’s 2022 miniseries *The Essex Serpent*, starring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston, is presented as an overlooked period drama that rewards viewers as its six episodes unfold. Rather than focusing mainly on whether a mythical creature exists, it builds tension through village suspicion, emotional conflict and the bond between its central characters.

Set in Victorian England, the story follows newly widowed Cora Seaborne, who travels to Aldwinter to investigate reports of the Essex Serpent. The villagers blame the creature for local tragedies, while the sceptical vicar Will forms an intellectual connection with Cora despite being married. The article highlights Danes’s portrayal of a scientifically minded woman pursuing her interests after an abusive marriage, alongside Hiddleston’s performance.
