Tom Holland and Zendaya Are On an Unprecedented Box Office Run

IGN · 6 hours ago

Tom Holland and Zendaya are enjoying an extraordinary run at the box office thanks to back-to-back blockbuster releases just two weeks apart, with both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day either having crossed or expected to cross the billion-dollar mark. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already broken box office records, including overtaking Avengers: Endgame's biggest domestic opening, and is tipped to reach $2 billion partly thanks to an added IMAX release. Together the pair's combined haul underlines the drawing power of the two stars, who are also a real-life couple.

Between the two films the pair have already amassed close to $2 billion, with the total potentially climbing beyond $3 billion once both finish their theatrical runs. Zendaya's year stretches further still, having also starred in The Drama, which took $123 million against a $28 million budget, and with Dune: Part Three due in December following Dune: Part Two's $715 million haul. Dune: Part Three faces competition from Avengers: Doomsday but benefits from a period of IMAX exclusivity, meaning Zendaya could finish the year with close to $4 billion in box office takings, or even more should the two films avoid cannibalising each other's audiences.

  • Holland and Zendaya's latest films are nearing a combined $2 billion at the box office
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day beat Avengers: Endgame's opening weekend record
  • Zendaya could approach $4 billion for the year once Dune: Part Three releases
