## Summary

Tom Rob Smith has revealed that he is nearing completion of a fictional book inspired by the West Memphis Three case. He described the project at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, saying it will explore ideas raised by the case rather than portray the real people, as he did with his novel Child 44.

The case concerns the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys in Arkansas. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr and Jason Baldwin were convicted as teenagers and spent 18 years in prison before being freed in 2011 after DNA evidence excluded them from crime-scene evidence; the case remains ongoing, with fresh testing ordered in 2024.
