Tom Selleck has said the cancellation of CBS drama Blue Bloods remained frustrating because its cast and crew wanted to continue. He said the show’s long-running, stable ensemble and positive working atmosphere made its ending particularly disappointing, despite its continuing broadcast success.

The police-family drama ran for 14 seasons from 2010 to 2024, and Selleck said the cast accepted a 25% pay cut and other measures to try to secure another season. He said it ranked sixth among the top 100 US broadcast programmes in its fifteenth year, while the cast remained intact; Donnie Wahlberg has since returned as Danny Reagan in spin-off Boston Blue, renewed for a second season beginning 9 October.
