Tony Nominee Lila Neugebauer Boards Netflix Drama Series ‘The Retrievals’ as Pilot Director (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 2 months ago

Tony-nominated director Lila Neugebauer has joined the forthcoming Netflix drama series "The Retrievals" as pilot director and executive producer. The series will be showrun, written and executive produced by Molly Smith Metzler, the Emmy-nominated creator of "Maid" and "Sirens", and produced by LuckyChap and Quiet Coyote. The appointment reunites frequent collaborators and signals continued momentum for a creative team behind several critically acclaimed Netflix titles.

"The Retrievals" is inspired by the Peabody Award-winning New York Times podcast by Susan Burton, which followed one woman's campaign against the Yale Fertility Center after she and nearly 100 other women were operated on without anaesthesia because a nurse had stolen their fentanyl. Netflix describes it as a powerful and surprisingly funny story about an unlikely community taking on a major institution. Neugebauer, who made her feature debut with "Causeway" and earned a Tony nomination for directing "Appropriate" on Broadway, previously worked with Smith Metzler on "Maid" and "Sirens". "Succession" director Andrij Parekh is also set to direct two episodes.
