Tool’s Maynard James Keenan says retirement is not an option despite recent hip surgery
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan says he has no intention of retiring, despite undergoing a second hip replacement after an injury during an A Perfect Circle tour. The 62-year-old says performing is central to his life and he plans to return once he has recovered.
Keenan injured his hip when it suddenly became difficult to walk, and he limped through the rest of the tour before contacting doctors in the US. He had the replacement in August; his first hip replacement was in June 2015. He says he expects to be healed in time for planned shows by Christmas, noting he will have played 28 shows across 18 countries with three bands by then.
