A senior investigator with the Albany County Sheriff's Office in New York has been suspended and charged after allegedly abusing access to Flock surveillance cameras to track down her ex-girlfriend's car thousands of times. Laurie Moore, 47, is accused of running more than 3,000 unauthorised searches on her former partner's vehicle, alongside over 1,000 further searches involving four other people she knew, prompting authorities to describe the episode as a serious breach of public trust in a system widely used to solve crimes.

The investigation was triggered by an outside tip, and Sheriff Craig Apple said Moore's access to the Flock database dated back to roughly the end of 2024, with the true scale of the misuse only emerging as the audit expanded. A command staff member has also been placed on administrative leave, though no other personnel were found to have misused the system. Moore, arrested on Wednesday, now faces two misdemeanour charges of official misconduct and falsifying business records, and is due in court on 24 September; she has not yet entered a plea. In response, the sheriff's office has tightened its policies, restricting Flock database access to supervisors and introducing a 30-day internal affairs review.
