## Summary

United Auto Workers president Shawn Fain said Democrats’ sweeping midterm victories do not guarantee working-class support in 2028. He called the results a “wake-up call” for politicians to back workers’ concerns, arguing that people will support whichever candidates address their needs.

Fain pointed to healthcare, living wages and retirement assistance as issues that helped Democrats win, including in Michigan. The state’s results contrasted with Donald Trump’s roughly 10-point advantage among voters without college degrees there in 2024; the article also notes that working-class voters have shifted towards Republicans in recent years, including in Rust Belt states.
