A Florida couple, aged 54, were killed in a three-vehicle crash in Auburndale after a pickup truck crossed into their lane and hit their car head-on, police said. The collision happened on Thursday afternoon and is being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the preliminary account, a 29-year-old driver drifted within the eastbound lane, hit a pickup ahead of him and then swerved across the centre line into the couple’s westbound Honda Accord. The husband died at the scene; his wife was freed from the wreckage and later died in hospital. The other two drivers were unharmed, and police said the 29-year-old showed no signs of impairment; any criminal charges will depend on the investigation.
