Trippier suffers knee injury on Wolves league debut
Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed that right-back Kieran Trippier suffered a knee ligament injury on his league debut for the club, adding to a growing injury list at Molineux. The 35-year-old former England international, who joined on a free transfer in June, sustained a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to his left knee during Friday's 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks, a blow given he had only just begun his Wolves career.
Fellow defender Yerson Mosquera also picked up an injury in the same match, suffering a slight tear in his ankle ligaments that will likewise keep him out for several weeks. There was more positive news elsewhere, with director of performance Phil Hayward reporting that winger Rafiki Said, who sustained a high-grade MCL injury in a pre-season friendly against Maidenhead United, is now out of his brace and progressing well. Hayward added that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is roughly a week from full fitness, while midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is a couple of weeks away from rejoining first-team training.
