## Key points

- Court papers show deportation talks continued during the Iran war.
- A judge ordered advance notice of planned removals.
- DHS denies sharing asylum records with Iran.

## Summary

Newly unsealed court documents show the Trump administration was still discussing deportations with Iranian officials during the war, including plans to remove Iranians through an unnamed third country. A judge has ordered the government to notify the court of any finalised plans and give advance notice before carrying out deportations, amid concerns about the risks people could face if returned.

The lawsuit alleges US immigration agencies shared confidential information about Iranian asylum seekers with Tehran and coordinated efforts to pressure people in ICE custody to return. DHS denies sharing asylum application records. Emails cited in the case describe more than 100 Iranians being sent back on three flights in September and December 2025 and January 2026; deportations to Iran are historically rare because of diplomatic hostility and fears of persecution.
