## Summary

Republican congressman Byron Donalds has won Florida’s gubernatorial election, according to the Fox News Decision Desk, becoming the first Black politician elected governor of the state. He is also the first Black Republican elected governor in US history and will succeed term-limited Republican Ron DeSantis.

Donalds, a three-term representative backed by President Donald Trump, defeated Democratic former congressman David Jolly in a close race. He campaigned on continuing DeSantis’s conservative agenda and pledged to address affordability, public safety and investment in young people. Florida has shifted towards Republicans over the past decade, though Democrats were seen as competitive amid a difficult political climate for the GOP.
