- Result tests Trump’s influence with Republican voters.
- Redistricting is set to reshape future contests.

## Summary

A Trump-backed Republican incumbent has been defeated in a Tennessee House primary, testing the president’s influence with Republican voters. The result matters because it comes as Republican-led redistricting is expected to alter the state’s congressional contests and could reshape the balance of power ahead of the midterm elections.

The primary was held on Thursday and was Tennessee’s first of the election cycle. The race attracted wider attention amid reports that a Democratic-funded super PAC intervened, while separate coverage highlighted a newly redrawn district won by a member of the “Tennessee Three”.
