## Key points

- Trump announced the pool’s reopening and joked about renaming it.
- About 60 supporters attended his final midterm campaign speech.
- The $14 million renovation faced delays and repair questions.

## Summary

Trump used his final midterm campaign speech to announce the reopening of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and joked that it could be renamed after him. The event drew about 60 supporters, and his decision to finish the campaign in Washington rather than a battleground state came as Republicans faced the possibility of losing control of both chambers of Congress.

Trump said he was giving “serious thought” to calling it the Trump Reflecting Pool, then said he was only kidding. The $14 million renovation had faced delays, cost questions and a blue liner that failed within weeks; its no-bid contract went to a Virginia firm that had resurfaced a pool at one of Trump’s golf clubs. Voters were due to decide control of the House and Senate the next day, with polls pointing to Republican losses.
