- He highlighted the renovated pool and other Washington projects.
- The pool’s delays, costs and disputed damage claims drew scrutiny.

## Summary

President Donald Trump chose the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington for his final public pitch before the 3 November 2026 midterm elections. The White House announced the speech for Monday, 2 November, after Trump suggested the venue would let him show the results of repairs to the pool. His decision to stay in the capital followed weeks of rallies intended to help Republicans retain control of Congress. The remarks were expected to cover his administration’s agenda, but the pool and his wider building projects became a prominent part of the event.

The setting also drew attention to a renovation that had taken longer and cost more than Trump initially projected. The pool was drained again after algae appeared and sections of its new lining peeled away. Trump has blamed vandalism for damage to the site, while prosecutors said poor workmanship caused the problems; a case against a man accused of damaging the pool was dropped. Speaking beside the reopened pool, Trump praised the work and discussed other changes he wants to make in Washington. His choice of venue highlighted a difference in campaign emphasis: he presented the projects as improvements to the capital, while Democrats criticised his focus on construction amid concerns about living costs and the economy.
